Signs You Need New Gutters (Not Just Repairs)
Gutters can be repaired repeatedly — but at some point, the cost of continued repairs exceeds the cost of replacement. Knowing when to make that call saves money and prevents the water damage that comes from chronically failing gutters.
Replace When You See...
Multiple cracks or splits
Small cracks can be sealed, but when cracks appear in multiple locations, the aluminum is fatiguing throughout — patching becomes a losing battle.
Gutters pulling away from the house along multiple sections
One loose section indicates a failed hanger. Multiple sections pulling away indicates rotted fascia board underneath — which requires fascia replacement and new gutter installation anyway.
Visible rust or heavy oxidation (steel gutters)
Steel gutters that have rusted through cannot be effectively repaired. Replacement with aluminum is the right call.
Persistent sagging after re-securing
If gutters keep sagging after being re-secured, the gutter itself may be deformed from years of debris weight. Straightening rarely holds.
Your gutters are 20+ years old with sectional joints
Older sectional gutters with multiple joints throughout are approaching end of life. Replacement with seamless gutters eliminates all the leak-prone joints at once.
Water consistently pooling against your foundation
If you're seeing foundation moisture despite functioning gutters, your drainage system is undersized. Replacement with larger gutters and additional downspouts is the fix.
